Stephan “Skyscraper” Struve (25-4) will meet undefeated rising star Stipe Miocic (9-0) in a five round main event battle on September 29, at UFC on FOX TV 5 (mmafighting.com). The event will take place in England.
Both of these fighters are at the top of the heavyweight food chain these days and will step in to the cage riding an impressive three fight win streak in the UFC. Miocic is undefeated in his career while Struve has fought many of the best heavyweights in the division. Whoever loses this one shouldn’t fall too far in the rankings.
The five round main event rule will make this fight very interesting since both fighters have only seen their fights go to a decision once a piece in their professional mixed martial arts careers.
Struve vs. Miocic is just one more testament to the UFC’s commitment to pitting top fighters against each other. There simply is no easy road to the top of the heavy weight division in this sport.
Look to see a strong performance from both top contenders whether the fight turns in to a bloody brawl on the feet or a smash bang ordeal on the ground.
Prediciton: I’m going with the upset in this one. I believe Miocic will catch Struve. He’s a smaller heavyweight with a strong boxing pedigree, similar to heavyweight Champ Junior Dos Santos.
I don’t think he will risk being sucked in to Struve’s ground game, especially after watching Struve snap Lavar Johnson’s arm at UFC 146. Miocic’s ability to get inside with effective foot work and striking will end Struve’s night early, in my opinion.
