Invicta FC 6 is targeted for a late June or early July date and already has a main event in store. Marloes Coenen (21-5) and Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos (11-1) will headline Invicta FC 6 for the featherweight championship.

This past weekend at Invicta FC 5 , Santos successfully returned from a 16-month drug suspension and layoff. She was successful over late replacement Fiona Muxlow for a first-round knockout, recording her ninth knockout in 11 career wins.

These two have fought before and the Invicta fans can’t wait for the rematch. Santos defeated Coenen in their first meeting via third round TKO as she successfully defended her featherweight title.

After Coenen lost to Santos, she went on to submit Sarah Kaufman to win Strikeforce’s bantamweight title. She is on a 4-1 run, which also included an Invicta FC 1 decision win over Romy Ruyssen and a December submission victory over Muxlow at DREAM 18.

This rematch has all the potential to keep Invicta on the female MMA fans radar for a long time. Many fans still want to see Santos fight the current UFC woman’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. I see that fight happening down the line, but until then, you can bet Coenen won’t go away easily.

The Santos-Coenen winner will join Michelle Waterson (newly crowned atomweight champion), Carla Esparza (strawweight champ) and Barb Honchak (new flyweight titleholder) as the Invicta FC’s first champions in their respective weight classes.
