Please note that the last updated rankings for the flyweight division were released on March 26, 2013. Those rankings will be parenthesis:

~ 1 (1) ~

Demetrious Johnson

Without a doubt Demetrious “Might Mouse” Johnson had an exceptional year. He defended his title three times against the likes of John Dodson, John Moraga, and recently Joseph Benavidez. In addition he’s risen on the pound for pound rankings, so expect greatness from him.

~ 2 (2) ~

John Dodson

Following his loss to Johnson in January, John Dodson was able to rebound in spectacular fashion against Darrell Montague at UFC 166. Currently ranked number one on the UFC rankings we can expect Dodson to face again Johnson in the near future in an exciting rematch.

~ 3 (3) ~

Joseph Benavidez

Joseph Benavidez was able to string together a three fight winning streak this whole year before facing Johnson again this year at UFC on Fox 9. However, his loss by knockout will certainly set him back. Currently ranked number two in the UFC, expect him to rebound soon.

~ 4 (4) ~

John Moraga

John Moraga had one fight this whole year and that was his title shot against Johnson which ended in a submission loss. Moraga has not hesitated to get a rebound match as he’s set to face Dustin Ortiz on January 15 at UFC Fight Night 35. Expect him to come in hungry.

~ 5 (5) ~

Darrel Montague

After an easy match in March on the regional circuit, Darrell Montague got a rather rude welcome to the UFC when he was knocked out by John Dodson at UFC 166. He’s now eager to get his first UFC win and is expected to face Will Campuzano at UFC 171.

~ 6 (6) ~

Ian McCall

Ian McCall had a rough start to the year when he lost against Joseph Benavidez, but was able to rebound at UFC 163 against Iliarde Santos. The UFC number three ranked McCall is now expected to face divisional newcomer Brad Pickett at UFC Fight Night 37 March 8th.

~ 7 (8) ~

John Lineker

John Lineker had a great 2013 when he went 3-0. However he had the issue of missing weight twice. Hope to see him make weight in 2014.

~ 8 (9) ~

Jussier da Silva

Jussier da Silva had a split year winning against Chris Cariaso but then loosing to Joseph Benavidez. However, he’s still ranked #6 (UFC).

~ 9 (10) ~

Yasuhiro Urushitani

The only non-UFC fighter on this list, Urushitani had a good 2013 going 2-0. However, a lack of top 10 competition will stunt upward growth.

~ 10 (7) ~

Louis Gaudinot

TUF alum Louis Gaudinot had a rough year only competing once resulting in a loss against Tim Elliot. Expect him to come back hungry.

Feel free to make any comments on whom you believe should be ranked where on the list. Stay tuned for the Best of 2013 Series.
