JDS vs Cain- Cain has all the tools, but his chin still worries me.

Velasquez is still the best wrestler in the heavyweight division (until Cormier arrives) and some still wonder how bad his “injury” was the last time these two juggernauts met. The problem is, can Cain get it to the ground, and what about his chin? JDS has the best boxing in the heavyweight division, and some believe in all of MMA  Cain has had problems with good strikers in the past and JDS is one of the best.

How Cain Wins:

He must fight from inside the clinch and on the ground. Pin Dos Santos against the cage, get his arms tired so he can’t throw 100% power and take the fight into deep waters winning a decision. Mir gave JDS trouble against the cage and Cain will have to do the same.

How Cain Loses:

He likes to come forward a lot, he has a skeptical chin, and when in trouble relies too much on his wrestling and becomes a one sided fighter. I don’t like comparing fights, but look at the Kongo fight. Cain kept getting hit and was dropped, and just relied on his wrestling to overcome the strikes of Kongo. Kongo’s wrestling we all know is weak, so obviously that was a good choice for Cain at the time. But if he thinks getting JDS down is going to be easy, he has another thing coming.

Joe Lauzon vs Jim Miller:

I love this fight and admire both fighters. Lauzon looks to be a new fighter ever since losing to Pettis at UFC 144, and Jim Miller needs this win to stay near the top of the division.

The Problem:

Frankie Edgar, Benson Henderson, Nate Diaz and Gray Maynard (all Miller’s losses) are all in different classes then Lauzon in my opinion. Maynard would have been too much for Lauzon and I see Miller being the same. Miller has only been finished once (against Diaz) and all of his other losses have been buy decision to top wrestlers. Miller has great wrestling and a submission game and even though Lauzon has a great BJJ game himself, he has still been submitted in the past by the likes of Raphael Assunção and George Sotiropoulos.

Quick Picks:

JDS TKO 2nd

Miller Submission 2nd round- Submission of the Night

Boetsch unanimous

Belcher TKO 2nd

Leben Submission 2nd round

Wineland KO 1st round- Knock Out of the Night

Perez submission 2nd round

Varner Sub 2nd round

Johnson TKo 2nd round

De Fries Sub 2nd round

Holloway Split- FOTN

Cariaso Unanimous
