The UFC had big plans for memorial weekend, but “Bigfoot” Silva disagreed. The two big heavyweights the UFC wanted to fight will be on the card, but not against each other. UFC 160 takes place May 25 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Cain Velasquez (9-1 UFC) and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva (2-1 UFC) will square off in the main event in a rematch from this past Memorial Day weekend. The only difference is, this time it’s going to be for the UFC heavyweight championship.

The UFC was hoping for a Overeem vs. Cain fight for the title, but “Bigfoot” had other plans. Silva beat Overeem at UFC 156 in a fight he looked to take very serious, while his challenger (Overeem) did not. Overeem bounced around, looked really sloppy and ended up getting knocked out in the third round, earning “Bigfoot” Silva the next shot at the heavyweight title.

Overeem has been running his mouth since getting to the UFC and has only wanted two things: the heavyweight title and a fight with Junior Dos Santos. Well, he will get one of his wishes, but it won’t be for the title.

The co-main event will feature former UFC heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos (9-1 UFC) as he takes on a nemesis in former top contender Alistair Overeem (1-1 UFC).

UFC President Dana White first revealed the planned match-ups to fans while in Ireland, prior to heading to London for UFC on FUEL TV 7. Ariel Helwani of FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight” said on Tuesday’s show that White confirmed the bouts.

~ Final Thought ~

I love this card already. I honestly don’t mind “Bigfoot” getting the title shot, especially when top guys like Werdum are busy.

Silva has done everything in his power to ruin the plans the UFC had for him, which included the chore of being a stepping stone for guys like Overeem and Travis Browne. If Silva can upset Cain and capture the UFC title, the mirage that is “Bigfoot” will become reality.

I also love the fact the JDS finally gets to shut up Overeem. “The Reem” has been talking way too much like he is the best in the world. If he was the best, he would be fighting for the title, not Silva. I love the fact that JDS and Overeem are fighting both coming off losses. Hopefully JDS smashes him up and we won’t have to deal with “Overoid” anymore. I hope the injury bug stays out of this card because so far, I’m already on board.
