So it was an exciting weekend of fights and now we are on a down but still busy week. With that here we go with our usual reviews and previews:
UFC 165 in Review
Main Event: Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson
Prediction: Jones by strikes. Result: Jones by decision. Gustafsson proved to be a challenge to Jones and they made arguably fight of the year.
Co-main Event: Renan Barao vs. Eddie Wineland
Prediction: Barao by submission. Result: Barao by strikes. Barao proved he’s well rounded and ready to challenge Dominick Cruz for the belt.
Brendan Schaub vs. Matt Mitrione
Prediction: Schaub by strikes. Result: Schaub by submission. Schaub settled a NFL score with Mitrione and proved his game is rounding out.
Costa Philippou vs. Francis Carmont
Prediction: Carmont by submission. Result: Carmont by decision. Carmont continued his winning streak and ground out a dominating decision.
Pat Healy vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov
Prediction: Nurmagomedov by strikes. Result: Nurmagovedov by decision. As I said, Nurmagovedov is undefeated and well rounded, enough said.
Overall score: 2.5/5; .5 prediction percentage. 0.5 for getting all of the winners guessed correct on the fight card
Bellator 100 in Review
Main Event: Ben Saunders vs. Douglas Lima
Prediction: Lima by strikes. Result: Same. Lima is on a different level compared to Saunders and he proved it by advancing in the tournament.
Co-main Event: War Machine vs. Vaughn Anderson
Prediction: Anderson by strikes. Result: War Machine by submission. War Machine’s experience was the deciding factor in this first round fight.
Luis Melo, Jr. vs. Ron Kesler
Prediction: Melo by submission. Result: Kesler by decision. As has happened many times over, replacement Kesler rose to the occasion.
Brent Weedman vs. Justin Baesman
Prediction: Weedman by strikes. Result: Weedman by submission. Weedman’s Bellator experience once again paid off to help him advance.
Rick Hawn vs. Herman Terrado
Prediction: Hawn by strikes. Result: Hawn by decision. Hawn took one more step towards his next run at the welterweight belt this season.
Overall score: 2/5; .4 prediction percentage. 1 for Lima’s win, 0.5 for picking Weedman as the winner, and 0.5 for picking Rick Hawn as winner.
Bellator 101 Predictions
Main Event: Joe Warren vs. Nick Kirk
Prediction: Warren by decision. This fight was rescheduled from Bellator 98 and is the next bout of a small bantamweight tournament.
Co-main Event: Marcus Davis vs. Alexander Sarnavskiy
Prediction: Sarnavskiy by submission. Sarnavskiy has only one loss on his record, veteran Davis however has a small resurgence in his career.
John Alessio vs. Will Brooks
Prediction: Brooks by strikes. Alessio maybe more experienced but is on a skid whereas Brooks has experience in Bellator and is rounded.
Saad Awad vs. Martin Stapleton
Prediction: Stapleton by decision. Awad has more promotional experience but Stapleton is on an eight fight win streak with only one loss.
Rich Clementi vs. Ricardo Tirloni
Prediction: Clementi by submission. Clementi is 3-1 in his last four fights whereas Tirloni is the opposite, and Clementi has more experience.
