So we get to see a rare situation where a UFC Fight Night is on a Sunday this weekend. Good thing considering the NCAA Championships:

UFC 171: Hendricks vs. Lawler

Main Event: Johny Hendricks #1 Welterweight vs. Robbie Lawler #3 Welterweight

Prediction: Hendricks by strikes. Result: Hendricks by decision. Contrary to some statements Hendricks did win three out of the five rounds.

Co-main Event: Carlos Condit #2 Welterweight vs. Tyron Woodley

Prediction: Condit by strikes. Result: Woodley by strikes (technically). To be fair Woodley was winning the fight before Condit’s leg injury.

Diego Sanchez vs. Myles Jury

Prediction: Jury by submission. Result: Jury by decision. Jury primarily utilized counter striking to pull a win against the original TUF winner.

Jake Shields #6 Welterweight vs. Hector Lombard

Prediction: Lombard by strikes. Result: Lombard by decision. Surprisingly Lombard handled Shields in a way not seen in recent MMA.

Ovince St. Preux vs. Nikita Krylov

Prediction: Krylov by submission. Result: Preux by submission. I firmly believe that Preux may have just pulled UFC sub of the year.

Overall score: 2.5/5; 0.5 prediction percentage. 0.5 for Hendricks, 0.5 for Woodley, 0.5 for Jury, 0.5 for Lombard, and 0.5 for Preux’s win.

Bellator 112

Note: Even though it was a preliminary fight, one of the welterweight tournament bouts was scored with the main card as a tournament bout.

Main Event: Daniel Straus #9 Featherweight vs. Pat Curran #10 Featherweight

Prediction: Straus by decision. Result: Curran by submission. Curran was able to rebound from his previous loss at the hands of Straus.

Co-main Event: Nah-Shon Burrell vs. Andrey Koreshkov

Prediction: Koreshkov by strikes. Result: Same. Expert striker Koreshkov did exactly what he was supposed to do to advance to the semis.

Cristiano Souza vs. Sam Oropeza

Prediction: Souza by submission. Result: Oropeza by strikes. Souza was a late replacement and as a result a prepared Oropeza won.

Jesse Juarez vs. Adam McDonough

Prediction: McDonough by strikes. Result: McDonough by decision. The rising prospect keeps his undefeated streak alive and advances.

Paul Bradley vs. Nathan Coy

Prediction: Bradley by submission. Result: Coy be decision. In their regional circuit rematch Coy successfully avenged his loss to advance.

Overall score: 1.5/5; 0.3 prediction percentage. 1 for Koreshkov’s win by strikes and 0.5 for McDonough’s win by decision. Not my best.

Bellator 113

Note: Even though it’s a preliminary fight, one of the lightweight tournament fights will be scored with the main card as a tournament bout.

Main Event: Attila Vegh vs. Emanuel Newton

Prediction: Vegh by submission. The Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion will defend his title and has the tools to defeat Newton again.

Co-main Event: Patricky Freire vs. David Rickels

Prediction: Rickels by submission. The Caveman has only lost to former champion Michael Chandler and will probably beat average Freire.

Marcin Held vs. Rodrigo Cavalheiro

Prediction: Held by submission. The Polish prodigy has only lost to former lightweight champion Michael Chandler and winner Dave Jansen.

Tim Welch vs. Derek Campos

Prediction: Campos by decision. If Campos can make weight unlike his last two fights then he will have a good chance at winning round one.

Brandon Girtz vs. Derek Anderson

Prediction: Girtz by submission. Like Campos, Girtz has had weight issues in the past so once again if he can make it he should win.

UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Henderson 2

Main Event: Mauricio “Shogun” Rua #7 Light Heavyweight vs. Dan Henderson #10 Light Heavyweight

Prediction: Rua by strikes. While I do believe Henderson is still a dangerous striker I think his best days are behind him while Rua still has it.

Co-main Event: Cezar Ferreira vs. CB Dollaway

Prediction: Ferreira by strikes. The original TUF Brazil Middleweight winner is looking for his first high profile UFC win against Dollaway.

Leonardo Santos vs. Norman Parke

Prediction: Parke by submission. The TUF Smashes Lightweight winner will try to make a name for himself over TUF Brazil 2 counterpart.

Fabio Maldonado vs. Gian Villante

Prediction: Maldonado by strikes. Maldonado has built a two fight win streak after having gone three fight loosing streak in the UFC.

Michel Prazeres vs. Mairbek Taisumov

Prediction: Prazeres by decision. Prazeres only has one career loss and he has rebounded from that loss looking to put a streak together.

Rony Mariano Bezzerra vs. Steven Siler

Prediction: The original TUF Brazil Featherweight winner is looking to rebound from his loss to Jeremy Stephens late last year.
