Gray Maynard beat Clay Guida in a controversial split decision. After five rounds of watching Gray chase Clay around the cage, I’m surprised it wasn’t a unanimous or even majority decision.
Sam Stout beat Spencer fisher by unanimous decision to end their storied trilogy. Fisher hit Stout with everything but the kitchen sink yet couldn’t stop Stout from taking him to the ground at will. I believe Fisher was robbed since he dealt out most the damage and even though Stout was able to take Fisher down, was unable to do any damage from the top position. On the other hand take down defense has been a significan problem for Fisher and maybe it is time for him to retire before he runs in to a better wrestler than Stout, of which is in strong supply in the UFC light weight division.
Brian Ebersole beat T.J. Waldburger by unanimous decision after being dropped by a strong left in the first round. After surviving a tight darce choke in the second, he was able to avoid other submission attempts and deal out everything he was given for the rest of the fight in part due to some brutal ground and pound.
Cub Swanson beat Ross Pearson in a knock out of the night performance. Pearson was caught with a left hook as he was moving in with punches at the retreating Swanson. Throughout the fight Swanson was mixing up punches and kicks with ferocious abandonment. Pearson had some success with his wrestling and was able to score take downs and some nasty ground and pound before Swanson ended the fight.
