There was a lot of fight cards this last week and this week we only have one going on. So with that’s let’s review and preview said events:
Bellator 117
Main Event: Douglas Lima vs. Rick Hawn
Prediction: Hawn by strikes. Result: Lima by strikes. Lima had the superior striking this fight which forced Hawn’s corner to call the fight it.
Co-main Event: Patricky Freire vs. Derek Campos
Prediction: Campos by decision. Result: Freire by strikes. The elder Pitbull’s time had finally come and he showed it by destroying Campos.
Marcin Held vs. Derek Anderson
Prediction: Held by submission. Result: Same. Held had the better submission game and defeated the late first round replacement.
Karl Amoussou vs. David Gomez
Prediction: Amoussou by submission. Result: Amoussou by decision. Amoussou was looking to snap a two fight loosing skid and did it.
Overall score: 2/4; 0.5 prediction percentage. 1 for Held’s submission win, 0.5 for Lima’s win, and 0.5 for Amoussou’s win by decision.
The Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale
Main Event: Michael Bisping #6 Middleweight vs. Tim Kennedy
Prediction: Bisping by strikes. Result: Kennedy by decision. Kennedy had the better ground game neutralizing Bisping’s stand up game.
Co-main Event: Patrick Cote vs. Kyle Noke
Prediction: Noke by submission. Result: Cote by decision. Cote has the overall better ground game and has more experience in the UFC.
Sheldon Westcott vs. Elias Theodorou
Prediction: Westcott by submission. Result: Theodorou by strikes. Theodorou had the better stand up game against Westcott’s.
Chad Laprise vs. Olivier Aubin-Mercier
Prediction: Laprise by strikes. Result: Laprise by decision. Laprise had to put forth an effort in order to become the TUF Nations Winner.
Dustin Poirier #6 Featherweight vs. Akira Corassani
Prediction: Poirier by submission. Result: Poirier by strikes. Poirier is a well rounded striker who is very adaptable and got the win again.
Overall score: 1/5; 0.2 prediction percentage. 0.5 for Laprise’s win by decision and 0.5 for Poirier’s win by strikes. Not my best fight card.
UFC on Fox 11
Main Event: Frabricio Werdum #2 Heavyweight vs. Travis Browne #4 Heavyweight
Prediction: Browne by strikes. Result: Werdum by decision. Werdum became the only man in the UFC to take Browne down and got a win.
Co-main Event: Miesha Tate #6 Women’s Bantamweight vs. Liz Carmouche #8 Women’s Bantamweight
Prediction: Tate by submission. Result: Tate by decision. Tate finally got her first UFC win and is now aiming for a Sarah Kaufman rematch.
Donald Cerrone #10 Lightweight vs. Edson Barboza
Prediction: Barboza by strikes. Result: Cerrone by submission. The Cerrone that goes out and gets bonuses showed up for this fight.
Brad Tavares vs. Yoel Romero
Prediction: Tavares by decision. Result: Romero by decision. Romero continues to rise after his transition to the UFC from Strikeforce.
Overall score: 1/4; 0.25 prediction percentage. 0.5 for Tate’s victory by decision and 0.5 for Romero’s victory by decision. Also not my best.
UFC 172: Jones vs. Teixeira
Main Event: Jon Jones #1 Light Heavyweight vs. Glover Teixeira #3 Light Heavyweight
Prediction: Jones by strikes. By no means is Glover Teixeira an easy opponent but Jones has shown what he is capable of and can win.
Co-main Event: Phil Davis #5 Light Heavyweight vs. Anthony Johnson
Prediction: Davis by decision. Davis has only one loss on his record and by no means will the reinvented Anthony Johnson be easy.
Luke Rockhold #7 Middleweight vs. Tim Boetsch
Prediction: Rockhold by submission. Rockhold had a great rebound against Costas Philippou and set for a delayed match against Boetsch.
Jim Miller #6 Lightweight vs. Yancy Medeiros
Prediction: Miller by submission. Miller pulled one of the slickest submissions at UFC 168 and can certainly pull another impressive one.
Max Holloway vs. Andre Fili
Prediction: Fili by strikes. Fili won his UFC debut and with his only win coming four years ago he will likely pull off another victory.
