Jon Jones currently sits at the top of the heap and is looking to etch his legacy in stone, as the greatest UFC light heavyweight champion of all time by already breaking records as the youngest UFC champion ever.
He has currently defended his light heavyweight championship belt 4 times now. Who will be the one to dethrone this king?
1. Jon Jones (17-1)
Having fought 12 times in the UFC, his only loss is to Matt Hamill due to Jones being disqualified for using illegal elbows going from 12 to 6 strikes. Jones’s next opponent is Chael Sonnen at UFC 159.
2. Lyoto Machida (19-3)
Winning his last two bouts back to back has put Machida back into title contention. Using a very unorthodox style, he climbed to the top of the UFC light heavyweight division, even being crowned the king at one point. Rumor has it Machida will wait for the victor of Jones and Sonnen at UFC 159.
3. Dan Henderson (29-9)
Long time mixed martial arts competitor Henderson is still right in the mix and still feels he has something to prove. He recently lost to the number one contender to what many fans believe was a controversial decision. Henderson is right back on the saddle facing Rashad Evans at UFC 161.
4. Alexander Gustafsson (15-1)
Recently being pulled from UFC on Fuel TV 9, Gustafsson was schedule to welcome Gegard Mousasi to the UFC. Gustafsson is thought to be the next big thing in the UFC light heavyweight division. We just have to wait and see how the cards fall with the young Gustafsson.
5. Glover Teixeira (20-2)
Known as Chuck Liddell’s protégé, he showed Quinton Rampage Jackson to the door of the UFC, handing him a loss on the last fight of his UFC contract. Watch as Teixeira climbs the ladder in the UFC light heavyweight division.
6. Shogun Rua (21-7)
The future is unclear with Rua. He hasn’t gone on a substantial winning streak in quite some time. He is scheduled to face Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 161.
7. Rashad Evans (17-3-1)
Rumored to drop down a weight division, this could possibly be what’s best for Evans who once competed in the UFC heavyweight division. Evans lost a 3rd round decision to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, where he didn’t showcase his typical skill set. He will get a chance to redeem himself against an always game opponent in Dan Henderson at UFC 161.
8. Gegard Mousasi (34-3-2)
Mousasi was originally scheduled to face Alexander Gustafsson at UFC on Fuel TV 9. Due to an injury, Gustafsson was forced to withdraw from the bout. Mousasi faced Lir Latifi who is a team mate of Gustafsson. Mousasi won a unanimous decision over Latifi at UFC on Fuel TV 9. Watch as Mousasi makes waves in the UFC light heavy weight division.
9. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (21-5)
Lil Nog showed us why we should never count him out against Rashad Evans; this victory is easily Lil Nog’s greatest victory to date inside the UFC organization. Lil Nog will face Muaricio Shogun Rua at UFC UFC 161. A long time awaiting rematch since the two first met back in PRIDE in 2005.
10. Phil Davis (10-1, 1 NC)
Having a strong wrestling back ground wrestling for Penn State in college, he made a natural switch to mixed martial artist after his amateur wrestling career was over. Davis will face Vinny Magalhaes next in the UFC. This should be an exciting ground game match up The Wrestler vs. Submission expert at UFC 159.
