Not a card goes by that at least one of the fights draws controversy due to the judges decision. Maybe there are times when they get it wrong but the fact remains they are put there to do a job and more often than not that job is done right.
No single person has been more vocal on the importance of finishing a fight than UFC President, Dana White who has said time and time again, don’t allow it to go to the judges. News flash fighters, you are there to win. If you can’t handle the outcome then you better make sure you control the outcome.
There’s nothing worse than listening to a “professional” whine and complain that he should have had his hand raised. If you want your hand raised finish the fight.
Judges are called upon often in MMA to decide the outcome of a fight and most of the time they get it right. The times they get questioned are usually when a fight is so close it could go either way.
Would you want to be sitting ringside for a match like last nights amazing back and forth championship bout between Frankie Edgar and Benson Henderson, and have to watch every single move with the sharpest of eye knowing that if you miss even the slightest move it could change the outcome?
The pressure an MMA judge faces is unreal and when the fans don’t like the decision the judges take the heat, but when do we ever hear a judge praised for getting a close decision right? That’s right, never.
A judge never gets the credit they deserve even when they get the call right. So for all you fans out there that think you call every fight without biased opinion I encourage you to take a judges course and make a difference. Otherwise quit your whining and live with the outcome.
Watch an interview by Heavy.com as they talk to UFC Vice President, Marc Ratner, about the judging situation. You might be surprised how the former Executive Director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission views this issue, in contrast to Dana White’s point of view.
