Last week was a busy week and this week is busy being the 20th Anniversary of the UFC. So with that here we go on the reviews for last week:
UFC: Fight for the Troops 3 in Review
Main Event: Tim Kennedy vs. Rafael Natal
Prediction: Kennedy by submission. Result: Kennedy by strikes. Kennedy is good striker so this is no surprise. He wins for Veterans Day.
Co-main Event: Liz Carmouche vs. Alexis Davis
Prediction: Carmouche by strikes. Result: Davis by decision. Davis continues her rise in the UFC to a possible future title shot in a fight or two.
Ronny Markes vs. Yoel Romero
Prediction: Markes by decision. Result: Romero by strikes. Romero continues his rise in the UFC with his second fight night victory.
Jorge Masvidal vs. Rustam Khabilov
Prediction: Khabilov by decision. Result: Same. As I said Khabilov is rising in the UFC and with this victory he springboards higher in the ranks.
Colton Smith vs. Michael Chiesa
Prediction: Chiesa by submission. Result: Same. Like I said The Ultimate Fighter 15 winner is a submission specialist and he did just that.
Overall score: 2.5/5; 0.5 prediction percentage. 0.5 for Kennedy’s win by strikes, 1 for Khabilov’s win, and 1 for Chiesa’s win by submission.
UFC Fight Night: Belfort vs. Henderson in Review
Main Event: Vitor Belfort vs. Dan Henderson
Prediction: Henderson by decision. Result: Belfort by strikes. Belfort’s striking has become extremely dangerous and Henderson learned that.
Co-main Event: Cezar Ferreira vs. Daniel Sarafian
Prediction: Ferreira by strikes. Result: Ferreira by decision. Ferreira won the fight by utilizing his ability to take down Sarafian and use GNP.
Rafael Cavalcante vs. Igor Pokrajac
Prediction: Pokrajac by strikes. Result: Cavalcante by submission. Technically Cavalcante finished Pokrajac by strikes using the clinch.
Paulo Thiago vs. Brandon Thatch
Prediction: Thatch by strikes. Result: Thatch by submission. Once again this was technically a finish by strikes when Thatch hit Thiago’s ribs.
Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Ryan LaFlare
Prediction: LaFlare by strikes. LaFlare by decision. LaFlare remains undefeated and demonstrated he was able to control Ponzinibbio all match.
Rony Jason vs. Jeremy Stephens
Prediction: Jason by submission. Result: Stephens by strikes. Stephens head kick demonstrated this veteran still has some fight in him.
Overall score: 2/6; 0.3 prediction percentage. 0.5 for Ferreira’s win, 0.5 for Cavalcante’s win, 0.5 for Thatch’s win, and 0.5 for LaFlare’s win.
Bellator 107 in Review
Main Event: Cheick Kongo vs. Peter Graham
Prediction: Graham by strikes. Result: Kongo by decision. Kongo fought his way into a title shot only two fights into Bellator MMA.
Co-main Event: Joe Warren vs. Travis Marx
Prediction: Marx by submission. Result: Warren by strikes. Warren capped his triumphant return by earning a bantamweight title shot.
Mikkel Parlo vs. Brennan Ward
Prediction: Parlo by strikes. Result: Ward by strikes. It was Ward’s first Bellator tournament and now he’s earned a middleweight title shot.
Patricky Freire vs. Edson Berto
Prediction: Freire by strikes. Result: Freire by decision. My apologies for the predicting a preliminary card fight, but props to Freire’s rebound.
Overall score: 1/4; 0.25 prediction percentage. 0.5 for Ward’s win by strikes and 0.5 for Freire’s win by decision despite his preliminary berth.
Bellator 108 Predictions
Main Event: Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Joey Beltran
Prediction: Jackson by strikes. Jackson comes into this fight having prepared to fight Tito Ortiz and now gets late replacement Joey Beltran.
Co-main Event: Alexander Volkov vs. Vitaly Minakov
Prediction: Minakov by strikes. Minakov is undefeated and his extremely tall build makes for a unique challenge in Bellator for champion Volkov.
Patricio Freire vs. Justin Wilcox
Prediction: Freire by strikes. Freire is one win away from another title shot, this time against the newly crowned champion Daniel Straus.
Marcos Galvao vs. Tom McKenna
Prediction: Galvao by by decision. Galvao returns to Bellator after a rebound with Shooto and is now looking for a returning match with Bellator.
UFC 167: St.-Pierre vs. Hendricks
Main Event: George “Rush” St.-Pierre vs. Johny Hendricks
Prediction: Hendricks by strikes. Hendricks can knock people out and is a strong wrestler, something St.-Pierre hasn’t faced recently.
Co-main Event: Rashad Evans vs. Chael Sonnen
Prediction: Evans by decision. Evans is a grinder who has on pare wrestling with Sonnen and is an overall better striker then Sonnen.
Rory McDonald vs. Robbie Lawler
Prediction: McDonald by submission. McDonald faces a dangerous striker in Lawler but has the submission skills to pull this off.
Josh Koscheck vs. Tyron Woodley
Prediction: Woodley by submission. Woodley is hitting hard times but is fresh in his career while Koscheck has been through some battles.
Tim Elliott vs. Ali Bagautinov
Prediction: Bagautinov by strikes. Bagautinov made a splash in his UFC debut and looks to continue his rise in the UFC against Elliott.
