UFC 153 first started with Jose Aldo set to take on Erik Koch, then after Koch’s injury is was set to be the champ versus Frankie Edgar. Edgar was stepping down to featherweight and when Edgar’s camp heard about the Koch injury, they stepped up to accept the challenge. The card looked pretty stacked with the featherweight championship on the line and a co main event featuring rising star Glover Teixeira and Rampage Jackson.
Since then, the injury bug struck again and now the card isn’t even PPV worthy in my opinion. Anderson Silva stepped up to take on the human punching bag in Stephan Bonnar and the co main event isn’t that. Teixeira is now set to face Fabio Maldonado who is coming off two straight unanimous decision losses to Kyle Kingsbury (who Glover destroyed in the first round) and Igor Pokrajac.
The UFC 153 card in Brazil is looking more and more like a FX or FOX card. The only fight that has significance to me, is Jon Fitch taking on Erick Silva. Everyone knows that Fitch is coming in there to do the “lay and pray” and Silva is no prey. This will be the true test for Silva and for Fitch to show that he still belongs as a top contender in the welter weight division.
The best part is, over here at MMAVictor we might complain about the fight cards, but fights are fights and bets are bets. And you can bet we have some great cards in store for you for UFC 153.
