I personally don’t think this means anything. UFC rankings don’t mean anything now a days. Chael Sonnen, Frankie Edgar, Nick Diaz and now Anthony Pettis have proved that. If you’re not marketable, you won’t get your shot.
Having a ranking system still won’t get Johny Hendricks his shot in April. It’s bad enough that fighters coming off losses are getting title shots, but now fighters are stealing jobs for other fighters in their weight-classes.
You should have to earn title shots in other weight-classes. Pettis vs. Aldo is a great fight, but they were going to give it to Erik Koch and he never did anything to earn it. Now Ricardo Lamas beats Koch and is considered chopped liver?
That makes no sense. Then you have Chad Mendes listed as number 1 and Edgar at 4? This whole thing is just a way to help the UFC grow. The rankings are like Chael Sonnen fighting Jon Jones. It sounds fun, but we all know it will end terribly.
