MFC fans have been dying to find out who Anthony Birchak will defend his title against next at MFC 40. We all know MFC CEO Mark Pavelich doesn’t disappoint, and this time is no different. Birchak will defend his MFC bantamweight championship against newly signed Kevin Croom at MFC 40.
The event will take place May 9 at the promotion’s regular home at Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The main card will air live on AXS TV. It will consist of three title fights. And again, you the fans get to choose the main event with the #PunchTheVote hashtag on social media.
Birchak won the first time this was put on, so we shall see if the MFC fans want to see Birchak back in the main event spot. He always comes to bring it and is always looking for the finish, so I don’t see why the fans wouldn’t want him back in that spot.
Birchak (11-1 MMA 2-0 MFC) is based out of Arizona and hasn’t lost since 2011 and is undefeated under the MFC banner. He is the MFC’s first bantamweight champion and will defend his title for the first time come May 9th.
Birchak is on a 5 fight winning streak. He won his promotional debut with a decision over Ryan Benoit this past May in the MFC’s fight of the year. At MFC 38 this past October, he stopped Tito Jones in the second-round with a rear-naked choke to win the bantamweight belt in stylish fashion.
Kevin Croom (13-5 MMA 0-0 MFC) trains at Jackson’s MMA in Albuquerque, NM, and is already set to face Bryan Goldsby February 28th at Titan FC 27. Win, lose or draw, the hard hitting Croom will be ready for one of the biggest fights of his career.
Croom’s last loss was in 2012 to Yaotzin Meza. Since then, he has racked up 9 wins in a row, including four rear-naked choke finishes. His striking and power is top notch along with his ground game. His wrestling is nowhere near Birchak’s, but he will have his own advantages in this fight, as will Birchak.
